During the Japanese occupation in Ilgwang-myeon, Gijang-gun, Busan, Japan excavated a mine to find gold. Now abandoned, this mine was just one of the 8,000 or so forced labor camps operated by the Japanese using Koreans. The Busan born and raised director tells the mine’s story along with its inhabitants. Thus remains the painful history of this area that still sheds red water. (JO Ji-hoon)
