What is the difference between “ having a dream ” and “ having the need to dream ” ? The protagonists of this film are old ladies who have lived in a valley in northern Italy for decades. Their lives have revolved around four places: the church, the city hall, the senior center and the cemetery. Now in their twilight years, they recall forgotten dreams and decide to go to the sea, a place they have never seen before. The question is “ how to ” . Their goal seems so far away and people begin to give up. The film, which superimposes the ladies ’ daily routines and their witty banter onto the fable Dream of the Eel, is a humorous yet touching human drama. At the same time, the film is a documentary with value as an anthropological record.
