Tom¡¯s mother Alison Hargreaves is a legendary mountain climber, the first female climber who topped Mt. Everest without supplementary oxygen, and succeeded in reaching the 6 Great North Faces of the Alps alone in summer. Hargreaves died in an accident while she was climbing K2 when Tom was 6. Without home, he lives on his father¡¯s pension camping around and settles down under the Dolomites. Now he lives as a climber like his mother. He attempts to be world¡¯s first person to climb solo the 6 North Faces of the Alps in winter, with minimal equipment just like his mother and other climbers in the 30s and 40s did. The best virtue of this film is the calm directing as Tom and his father calmly take climbing as a part of everyday life. Although the film is missing difficulties, hardship and tear-jerking triumph, which are typical in other mountain films, it bodily shows the support and love of his father for him while he earnestly climbs mountains by himself.
