Amy BENSON, Ramyata LIMBU
At a small village in Nepal, most of the villagers struggle in poverty. Darnal¡¯s family is not an exception. Shanta is lucky enough to receive a scholarship and goes to school in Kathmandu by virtue of help from an NGO. Her dream is to become a medical doctor. Amy Benson and Scott Squire go to Nepal to make a promotion film. However, what brings them to Nepal is a tragedy that happened to Shanta. There they make a video record of Darnal¡¯s family for 7 years. What is the cause of the tragedy? Neither the documentary nor the family has the answer. Drawing the Tiger simply shows the poverty they are suffering. This is a film that exposes the reality of an underdeveloped country where people can barely have hope through a tragedy of a family. It is also a requiem for a girl who had hope despite gloomy circumstances.
