Bombay fishermen Rakesh and Ganesh are inheritors of the great Koli knowledge system. Rakesh has kept faith in the traditional fishing methods, while Ganesh embracing technology. Against the Tide is a tale of friendship and rising resentment between the two men, as close as brothers, against the backdrop of an adoring sea, which is increasingly turning hostile because of climate change.

Sarvnik Kaur is a documentary filmmaker who strives to tell stories that hide the tension and conflict just beneath the surface of the normal and mundane. She has spent three years with the Kolis of Bombay developing her new documentary Against the Tide.
