Sardasht, a Kurdish city in the Iran/Iraq border, along with a number of villages in the surrounding areas are attacked with chemical weapons by Iraqi forces in 1987. Ghader, a villager from the area and his pregnant wife, as well as his three young children, are exposed to the chemicals and suffer injuries. Ghader has to singlehandedly try to keep his family alive.

Born in 1981 in Babol, a city in the north of Iran. He directed his first feature film in 2015, titled Standing in the Dust, followed by three others: Midday Adventures, Lottery, and Trace of Blood. Walnut Tree is his fifth feature film.
