The story of Balloon starts from the collision of the primitive desires of people and the policies that restrict the innermost lives of individuals. The story is about the conflict between religious belief and real life. And it implies that the conflicts are eventually linked to one thing. A lot of things happen that cannot be explained with scientific theories even in the time of giving birth to test-tube babies. This is a story about the way of being Tibetan and of their beliefs in reincarnation and dharma. It is about allegory of wavering faith after the Chinese occupation of Tibet. Balloon is a beautiful, dreamy poem. But it also blends social satire with Tibetans¡¯ social awareness. (H.Jay LEE) [Screening Information]
