I'm Off Then is the autobiographical story of Hape Kerkeling, a German TV broadcaster and artist. Entertaining audiences from his childhood, Kerkeling has lived a life with no rest at all. When a burnout syndrome strikes him, he stops all his works only to find that taking a rest is another type of hard work. One day, he realizes that he's been ceaselessly working for the approval of others since his mother passed away. To find some time to rest, he goes to the pilgrimage of Santiago de Compostela, which is not as easy as he thought, and the first thing he has to find is what he is truly looking for on this walking trail. Like many people say, this film suggests that we should just go and walk the trail and finish it regardless of whatever we eventually find.
