In the early 1990s, young dirt beggars begin to flock to Joe¡¯s Valley, Emery County in southeastern Utah, USA, where most locals are Mormons who don¡¯t even drink coffee or tea. For the locals, Joe¡¯s Valley is just a nature reserve, but to climbers, it¡¯s a bouldering paradise. Since it was introduced in mountain magazines, the region became increasingly known around the world, but the local distrust towards the climbers remained. The film presents ways for a sport or a festival to harmonize and coexist with local culture, while also sounding the alarm. An open mind from both sides is a prerequisite to coexistence that can also be applied in a broader sense to coexistence with nature through environmental protection. (Jinna LEE)
