Martin DE VALK
Sir Edward Oliver Wheeler was the only person with a foreign nationality amongst the nine members of the first Mount Everest climbers from the UK in 1921. As a valedictorian at Royal Military College of Canada, he became a military officer in the British army and participated in World War I to render a distinguished service. In 1919, he was dispatched to the Survey of India and learned photographic surveying. It was natural, therefore, that he became one of the members of the Mount Everest expedition. He found the route to the top of Rongbuk Glacier by doing a close survey and climbed up to 7,000m high from the sea surface. Now his grandson Jeff Wheeler Crompton goes on a journey to trace the footsteps of his grandfather with the photos and records he left...
