Teresken is a kind of shrub in the Pamir plateau, a highland desert, and it is one of the region’s main sources of energy. The shrub flourished in the key location of Murghab, back in the Former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, but drastically declined after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Teresken may be the symbol of the current circumstances in Murghab. The camera shows the daily lives of people in Murghab: medical staff never leaving Murghab, residents trying to grow vegetables, a couple hoping for their felt factory to be back in business again soon, school teachers and students being enthusiastic in teaching and learning, and regional people heading to the highlands to collect teresken early in the morning.
