Hoeun has left for India to follow the legend of Hanuman, the god of India and has had to wander between mountains. Hampi is a village filled with mountainous piles of stones, which Hoeun constantly climbs up and then falls from. He often feels anxiety when he wakes up in the morning without rocks to climb, and so Hoeun focuses on ascending, and the camera unceasingly follows his movement in detail. This experimental documentary reflects the director¡¯s fate and inner mind and reveals that he can be free from the conflicts and pain in real-life only in the moment of climbing. This is Hoeun¡¯s journey, which looks like the aimless path of Hanuman. (Billy CHOI)

  • LIM Il-JinLIM Il-Jin

Lim began climbing in 1988, when he entered Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, and learned photography in Japan. In 2008, he became the first Asian to be awarded at the Trento Film Festival with his documentary The Wall. Alpinist was selected as the Ulju Summit film at the first Ulju Mountain Film Festival, where it was screened. He was also a special director for the Korean film The Himalayas. Korea is pretty much barren when it comes to mountain films, but Lim climbed mountains with a camera for the last 30 years, coming to represent Korean mountain film directors. He was with Kim Chang-ho and the Korean Way Gurja Himal expedition that perished in 2018.
