This is the 11th film and first 16mm genre piece from Quebec’s leading filmmaker Denis Cote. A young man dies in a car accident in a small and declining imaginary city in Quebec with a population of 215. Soon after, those who have died in the past return to the village as ghosts. The filmmaker seems more interested in the villagers’ response to the unexpected apparitions than the ghosts themselves. Ghost Town Anthology is a horror film with ghosts, but through these uninvited intruders, the filmmaker seems to be presenting a political film by clearly using them as a metaphor for ‘xenophobia’.
