The film begins and ends with a closeup scene of a reindeer. For the Dukha in Northern Mongolia, who see life as an adaptation of God’s will and as the order of nature, reindeer are regarded as creatures which share the fate of the community. The Dukha believe that messages from God will be conveyed by reindeer. Also, the messages will disappear when the deer vanish. They are dedicated to the simple and harmonious beauty of life in a pristine region, which is still not polluted by neoliberalism. (MAENG Soo-jin)
