Thomas DIRNHOFER
Sport climbing star, David Lama(1990~2019) announced his plan to free climb Cerro Torre as his first goal after becoming a full-fledged alpinist. His first attempt in 2009 failed, and the numerous bolts and fixed rope his film crew left behind were heavily criticized. He had to abort his free ascent in 2011 due to the ice-filled head wall, but his third ascent in 2012 succeeded. David Lama launched a new generation of climbers reaching for Cerro Torre since this challenge began during the 1950s. (LEE Young-jun)
