Erik Weihenmayer, the first blind person to reach the summit of Mt. Everest in 2001, attempted a new kind of challenge: Solo-kayaking through the Grand Canyon Colorado Gorge for 21 days with his teammate. Kayaking through the gorge, notorious for its numerous and formidable whitewater lavacascades is more than demanding, especially for someone with a visual disability. As he paddles through the unpredictable currents, Erik faces a sense of defenselessness, fear and anxiety, but eventually ends up feeling the weight of water in its entirety and succeeds in accomplishing his mission with the best teamwork possible.
