In 2017, Swiss and Bavarian climbers Stephen Siegrist, Julian Zanker and Thomas Huber try to ascend Cerro Kishtwar in the Indian Himalayas, where foreigners had been banned from climbing. Only three climbs have ever been attempted. Britain’s Andy Perkins made the first attempt 25 years ago, and David Lama and Siegrist were forced to turn back in 2016. But in 2017, Siegrist’s team exhausted their expertise working through rocks and overhangs in search of the central route of the NW Face and conquered it in 11 days. The new route is called Har Har Mahadev meaning ‘to become brave enough to make the impossible, possible’. (Christine PAE)
