Climbing the Julian Alps with Kekec

A story of a boy who overcomes fear with courage, set against the beautiful backdrop of the Julian Alps.

Meet Slovenia, this year's UMFF guest country, through the beauty of its Julian Alps on screen. Kekec (1951) is a Slovenian film set in the Julian Alps, following the brave boy Kekec as he stands up against Bedanec, a savage man feared by the entire village, to rescue those held captive. Being introduced in Korea for the first time through this screening, come and experience the story of Kekec, beloved across generations, on the big screen.

Before the screening, Miriam Možgan, Ambassador-designate of Slovenia to Korea, will give an introduction to the film in person. After the screening, she will join Blaž Veber, Head of the Bled Tourism Board, for a conversation about Slovenia's nature and mountain culture, and the culture and spirit of Slovenia shaped amid the majestic landscapes of the Julian Alps.

Kekec

The story is set in an idyllic village of the Slovenian mountains where Kekec, a young boy is living. High up in the mountains leads his solitary life Bedanec, a man everybody is afraid of because he is wicked. But the brave boy Kekec is not afraid of him. When he finds out that Bedanec keeps his victims in his house, he sets out to find them. With his courage Kekec manages to set them free, and what's more, he forces Bedanec to leave for good.
