Making Magpie-Tiger Tea Coasters

We begin with two animated shorts from the Together: Heart at 36.5°C section, My Roommate, Daldal​ and Allssigu​. After the screening, we talk with the directors, then turn to the many ways our ancestors braided thread and to the long-told tale of the magpie and the tiger.

Magpies and tigers have appeared side by side in Korean paintings and stories for centuries. After hearing the tale, participants braid their own thread and make a tea coaster to take home, turning what they saw on screen into something held in their hands.

Designed for preschoolers through early elementary school children. Spend an autumn afternoon making something together at the Deck Cinema on the mountainside.
