After five expeditions over ten years, David Göttler stands atop the 8,125-meter-high Nanga Parbat. His success is hard-won but achieved with the greatest possible self-sufficiency. For unlike the full-service expeditions of commercial operators, the ‘expert in failure’ climbed not on the standard route, but on the difficult ‘Schell Route.’ Fifty years after its first ascent, he is thus demonstrating the state of the art in modern high-altitude mountaineering.
Finishing this 12-year project was an achievement, but sharing it through this film means even more. I hope it inspires others to pursue lifelong dreams with patience, dedication, resilience, and the belief the journey is worth it.
