I shot this film in a village in Guangxi, a province in southwest China. In China, parents and kids are being separated by the cruel reality every year. What does separation mean to them? Are they used to being apart and not feeling the pain anymore?
Sooyoung Chin is a jazz pianist and songwriter, who majored in piano at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, and obtained a master’s degree in composition from Queens College.
Simultaneously released in the US and Korea, his debut album Original Intension (with bassist Choi Kwang-moon and drummer Kim Chaek), was awarded by the ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers), the largest music copyright management organization in the US.
Isaac Hong made his debut in 2013 with his original song “Spring”, which was awarded the bronze prize at the 24th Yoo Jae-ha Music Concours. Since then, Hong participated in the JTBC audition program “Super Band”, where he finished in fourth place. During the competition, he showcased excellent skills in songwriting, arranging and playing musical instruments, earning praise from senior musicians Yoon Sang and Kim Jong-wan, and capturing the hearts of the public. Later, he gained acclaim for his role as the lead actor and music director in the music film Dasi Mannan Naldeul. He is also well loved for his activities as a radio DJ and live performances.
In 2023, he joined tvN show “Hong Jin-kyung’s The Ultimate Guide for Movie Junkies” to interview Hollywood actors and directors, and generated buzz for his fluent English. He is also actively making soundtracks for films like My Liberation Notes and The Uncanny Counter. He continues to build a diverse music archive much loved by the public. In August 2022, he released a single album titled Stay, and in April 2023, released an EP titled Everland, in collaboration with jazz pianist Jin Soo-young.
