PROGRAM

Every year, Sooyoung Chin Cinema Ensemble returns to UMFF, reinterpreting silent films with new music and delivering a special experience to audiences.
Buster Keaton's Our Hospitality portrays a love that begins by chance amid the deep, long-standing feud between two families, along with the unpredictable turmoil that follows — a film that blends elaborate slapstick, bold action, and Keaton's signature witty humor.

Here, the vibrant live performance of Sooyoung Chin Cinema Ensemble breathes new life into this classic film.
Look forward to a special live performance uniquely their own, experienced amid the theater's immersive atmosphere and the free-spirited air of the outdoor setting.

Our Hospitality
USA | 1923 | 76min | B&W | Fiction

Young Willie McKay travels south to claim his father’s inheritance. On the train, he falls in love with a young woman — the daughter of the Canfield family, locked in a blood feud with the McKays. Thanks to the Southern code of hospitality, which forbids harming a guest in one’s home, Willie stays alive by never leaving the Canfield house. A masterpiece of silent comedy, crowned by the waterfall rescue — one of Keaton’s most breathtaking stunts.
