The UMFF Project is a production support program of Ulsan Ulju Mountain Film Festival (UMFF), consisting of UMFFsummit (supporting professional filmmakers) and UMFFmentary (supporting documentary production of the general public). Since its inception in 2015, UMFFsummit has presented its films as a world premieres every year, with some films being awarded at international mountain film festivals outside Korea or being released in theaters domestically.
This year, we present 3 feature length and 2 short films. These include director Kim Min-kyung¡¯s (based in Busan) second feature film People I Meet, director Kim Dae-hyun¡¯s documentary on Jindo A Breath of Earth, Jindo Story, director Jung Hyung-min¡¯s documentary on North American indigenous people Looking for Hope, a short film set in the future Hannah, and a film that cleverly combines the protagonist¡¯s reflections on life with innovative cinematic techniques All the Days.
UMFFmentary combines ¡°UMFF¡± and ¡°documentary¡±. It is a media education program hosted by UMFF and the Ulsan Community Media Center, offering education and support for film production. Each year, the films premier at UMFF before being showcased at other film festivals in Korea. This year¡¯s UMFFmentary includes 4 short documentaries. One features honest stories from the Ulsan based film community ""Curtaincall"" as a cultural organizer, while another has a unique setting as a theme – a hair salon. There are also character documentaries about a traditional Korean musician and a hunter.
