Waiting for the next season
The Korean Wave section will showcase 4 feature films and 9 short films representing the achievements and trends of Korean independent films from the past year. There were noticeably many Korean independent films this year with titles that include seasons, or that captured the beginning and end of a season. At the ending of a film, the lingering emotions of a passing season and the longing for the approaching season would wash over us. These films talk about the time and memories of a season – the strength to endure the present, and the hope for the changes the next season will bring. We imagine the future and head towards it. The present is a journey toward the next season, and perhaps, the present is that next season. I, too, am writing this in the middle of a scorching summer, awaiting the fall when the festival will take place. The films that have endured through the last four seasons await you in Ulju to enrich its fall.
