Nestled in the Alps, the Dolomite Mountains in northern Italy was designated as a UNESCO Natural heritage site in 2009 and will host the 2026 Winter Olympics along with Milan. It is considered to be the birthplace and the heart of Italy’s mountain culture. And at its core are the Club Alpino Italiano(CAI), Trento Film Festival, and the Museo Nazionale Della Montagna Cai-Torino.
This year’s Guset Country section features 12 films, and 8 of them are rooted on Italy’s rich mountain traditions. There are also 4 films by female directors who are raising their voices within a culture still strongly influenced by Catholic tradition and patriarchy. We hope they will provide insight into Italy’s diverse aspects.
