This year¡¯s Nature section focuses on the stories of people struggling to survive in the rapidly changing environment and women from diverse cultural backgrounds.
There are films that prompt us to reflect on the complex and delicate relationship between our lives and the surrounding environment: Atirkül in the Land of Real Men, where Atirkül leads a buzkashi -a real man¡¯s sport- team in Kyrgyzstan; The Monk and the Gun, a multi-layered presentation of the shifting conditions of life and values that must be upheld as Bhutan holds its first democratic election.
We can also reflect on our history, traditions and life through films such as: Daughter of the Sea, about Jae-yeon and her life as a haenyeo (traditional Korean diver); Seventeen, which uses animation to talk about Antonietta, a surviving Italian partisan from World War II; and Dhye Dreams, about the lives of three women striving to survive the extreme climate changes.
