In this year¡¯s Mountain section, the philosophy on mountains by professional Asian mountaineers with experience and love for the mountain juxtapose with the vibrant and thrilling adventures of the younger generation of climbers.
Films about those who loved the mountains but are no longer with us include: After the Snowmelt, which captures the sorrow and longing for a friend who died during a trek in Nepal; and Rope, which showcases the life of Japanese alpinist Hiraide Kazuya, who wasn¡¯t able to return from pioneering a new route on the west face of K2.
Also, meet Korean climbers in Sasol Odyssey and Last Ray, where climbers Sa Sol and Lee Min-young overcome crises and face challenges; the Video Album Mountain program¡¯s episode Himalayas Thorong La, 5,416m, which introduces the Annapurna trekking by Song Gwi-hwa, who, at 74 years of age, became the oldest female to summit the highest peaks on all seven continents.
Showcasing the adventures and explorations by MZ generation climbers are films such as: Chronoception, where four European snowboarders and two guides cross paths with Central Asian culture while exploring the mountains of Kyrgyzstan; Continuum, with a powerful message from the journey of skiers who transformed seemingly non-recyclable ski gear into tents; and Slides on the Mountain, where some First Nation people begin ski mountaineering to preserve and connect with their culture.
