Conrad Anker is considered the most influential mountaineer in the U.S. His mountain climbing career which began in Yosemite escalated into fame as he conquered highly-challenging world mountain routes including the likes of the Himalayas and Patagonia. However, in 2016, during his journey with David Lama to Nepal’s untrodden peak, Lunag Ri(6,907m), he experienced a life-threatening situation when he was hit with extreme pain in his chest and suffered a heart attack. It was while he was recovering from heart surgery that Anker met Alex Wildman. He joined forces with mountain climbing rookie Alex to venture up Yosemite’s El Capitan, an experience which led Anker to reflect upon the value of life and the joy of climbing. (GWAK Jeong-hye)
