A section about the endless courage and persistence of professional alpinists. This year, there will be seven films taking you on a climb of the vast alpine mountains of Asia, Europe and America, including Mount Everest, still at the core of many issues, the death mountain K2, Nanga Parbat, Cerro Torre, and Mount Huntington.
This year’s Ulju Mountain Culture Award recipient Kurt Diemberger, also known as the 8,000m Cameraman, was part of the disastrous 1986 K2 expedition to the Himalayas. K2 - Mountain of Dreams and Destiny was filmed and directed by Diemberger himself and gives a vivid picture of the situation at the time, as well as the Korean group expedition also climbing the K2. Cerro Torre: A Snowball’s Chance in Hell shows the entire process of free climbing the Cerro Torre by David Lama, who was killed this spring while climbing the Rocky Mountains. Mt. Huntington - Ice Calling is a sequel to the Mexican film Ice Calling, which won the Best Climbing Film last year.
