PROGRAM

UMFF Focus - Ulju Vision : Women and Mountains

There will be 13 short and medium films screened in this year’s Ulju Vision, with the theme “Women and Mountains.” The films portray the cool women who are passionate about pioneering their ways – climbing the eight-thousanders usually thought to be men’s domain, enjoying various outdoor activities in the rough, and shooting in the backwoods as an adventure-specialty director.

14+1 deals with the life of Italy’s best female climber Nives Meroi, who for 20 years has summited the 14 peaks of the eight-thousanders with her husband; In the Shadow of Everest is the only documentary in existence of Wanda Rutkiewicz, known as “Poland’s woman of iron will” for becoming the first woman to successfully climb the death mountain, K2. Keeper of the Mountains gives us a glimpse of Hawley, who died at 94 earlier this year to the sorrow of many mountaineers. In Perpetual Motion and Where the Wild Things Play are both films by Australian director Krystle Wright, who makes a lively portrayal of women enjoying MTB, climbing, kayaking, and skiing.
