This section showcases the endless challenges and courage by professional mountaineers, especially since alpinism is not merely high-altitude climbing, but an ethical attitude emphasizing the climb itself and the climbing process. This year’s Alpinism section will show 11 films. Some will pay tribute to the climbing life of giants in mountaineering, and other will provide deep insight into the inner side of young mountaineers actively climbing today. There will be films that help us see the life and climbing philosophy of mountaineers: Bonington-Mountaineer takes a look into the life of Sir Chris Bonington, a living legend of alpinism; Dirtbag: The Legend of Fred Beckey is a cheerful film about passionate Fred Beckey, an American climbing maverick and legend; and Loved by All: The Story of Apa Sherpa makes a beautiful portrayal of the dedication of Apa Sherpa, who has climbed Mount Everest 21 times. Other films add to the variety, including Mountain, which brings all the climbing activities from around the world together in grand harmony with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, and Everest Green, which sheds light on the issue of garbage left behind in Mount Everest.
